Turn a gloomy home into a sunlit paradise

Natural light always makes a home warm and pleasant to live in, than artificial lighting. The way sunlight is filtered into your home can turn a dull, drab home into a sunny haven. The best part of using natural sunlight to light up your home is that you reduce energy costs as you are not using electricity to light up your home. There are several factors to consider when using sunlight as the main lighting for your home.

The right direction

When you are building a home, and you have decided that you want your home to be sunlit most of the time, you need to discuss the best options of doing that with your contractor.

North - Rooms that face North will get a lot of indirect sunlight all through the day, and so when choosing the color and d├ęcor for those rooms, you should take that into account. Strong colors are a good option for North facing rooms.

South - Rooms that face South get more intense sunlight, and so these rooms should be done up in more mellow tones as the effect of the sunlight on these warm colors will look great.

East - The rooms to the East will get the full effect of morning sunlight, so make sure that the rooms that you use during the morning are built facing East.

West - The rooms that you use later in the day should face west, so that they will have access to the sunlight as twilight draws near.

Make mirrors work for you

Sunlight and mirrors are a great combination. In rooms that don’t get direct sunlight, adding mirrors that reflect the amount of sunlight coming in, can intensify the amount of light making the room appear larger and airier.

Curtains

Rooms that face East and West have more sunlight pouring in during certain times of the day and less at other times. It is a good idea to have two sets of curtains for these windows, one on the inside and one on the outside. The inner curtains can be sheer and the outer ones can be heavier and darker. If there is too much sunlight coming into the room, the darker curtains can be drawn, if necessary. When the sun passes over to the other side, the sheer curtains will ensure that there is enough light coming in.

Venetian blinds

These are an excellent way to manage the amount of sunlight that comes into a room. Since the blinds can be moves at an angle, you will always be in control of the amount of light the room receives.

Daylighting systems

With daylighting systems, you can get sunlight coming into your home right through the day. You don’t need to build your house with an eye on the compass, if you are installing daylighting systems, as they absorb sunlight from whichever angle the sun is shining, and fill your home with it.

Many daylighting systems come with a controller. This can be used to control the amount of sunlight that comes into the house. For example, at noon, when the sun is the brightest, if you feel that the amount of sunlight coming into the home is too much, you can lower the light by using the dimmer.

Benefits of having natural sunlight in your home

Using natural sunlight to fill your home has a number of benefits:
  • You conserve energy
  • Your electricity bills will lower dramatically
  • Natural sunlight enhances the decor of the home
  • It is good for health
  • It provides a positive atmosphere
  • It prevents depression
There, you have it. We have been given the gift of sunlight. Let us make the most of it!

All about LEDs

How does an LED work?

LED is an acronym for light emitting diodes. They are used for lighting, but they do not need electricity. They are powered using electrons in a semiconductor and fit snugly into any kind of electrical circuit. You find LEDs almost everywhere these days, and though they have never been used as efficiently as they are these days, they have been around for a long time. The light in your watches, the little switches in electronic devices that tell you when the device is turned on, the pretty little lights hanging from paper lanterns are all examples of LEDs. When a bunch of them are used together, they can be used to light up something as small as a traffic signal, to something as large as giant billboards.

Advantages of LEDs
    1. The biggest advantage of an LED is that it is very efficient. Conventional lights use a lot of energy to generate heat. This means a lot of electricity consumed, which in this age of conservation is something people do not want to.
    2. LEDs produce more lumens of light per watt than incandescent bulbs. Their efficacy is high and that is what makes them more efficient.
    3. Since you are not using electricity to light up your space, your power bills will come down drastically. So LEDs are good for the environment and for your pocket.
    4. LEDs last longer than conventional lights as they don’t use filaments that burn out much faster. An LED can last as long as a transistor.
    5. They don’t become as hot as regular bulbs, since they don’t have a filament burning inside them. This makes it easier to handle them.
    6. They are usually encased in a plastic covering, which is more durable than glass.
    7. They can be made to size and this helps them fit into any type of electronic circuit.
Why do people still buy incandescent bulbs?

The efficiency and durability of LEDs over incandescent bulbs is pretty clear. But many people still buy incandescent bulbs. This is because they are not aware of the advantages of LEDs. An LED is more expensive than an incandescent bulb, but it more than repays its buying cost during actual usage in lower power bills. Paying a little more at the start helps you save money in the long run.

Sunlight Concepts offers Smart LED systems to light up your space

After years of research, Solatube, the leader in daylighting systems offers a uniquely designed Smart LED system. These products have been designed to use the sun’s energy to power them up and these are used to light up spaces, residential and commercial. They use the sun’s rays to light up your home or office the entire day. This gives you a huge saving of 94% in lighting. Some of the reasons why LEDs are the way to go:
  • They use sunlight that provides a no-cost daytime light supply
  • These energy-efficient LEDs use minimal electricity
  • The LED system requires virtually no maintenance
  • These LED systems use advanced technology and come with features that continually monitors daylight levels
  • These features help operate the system automatically for hands-free lighting
  • The LEDs use a technology called optional occupancy sensor that provides maximum automation
  • The LEDs use unlimited sunlight never runs out
  • The energy-efficient LEDs last up to 20 years
  • This LED system eliminates the need for replacement bulbs
LEDs are the way forward

As more and more LED products flood the market, it is important to understand why LEDs make sense. The fact that they are more efficient and use less energy is irrefutable. Making a change to LEDs products is a smart decision! Visit our websites at http://www.sunlightconcepts.com/ and http://www.saveonpge.net/ to find out more about our Smart LED system.
